WORKSHOP ON
“WHY
CAPITAL MARKET MATTERS MUCH MORE THAN YOU THINK?”
IQAC, Department of
Commerce and Management in Association with
Commerce and Management Association and Career Guidance Cell has
organized a Virtual Workshop on Saturday. Dr. Raghavendra A. Principal, Dr. Prakash Rao, Vice Principal, and IQAC
Coordinator, Prof. Shivakumar PT, HOD of Commerce and Management, Dr. Anand
Acharya, Convener of Career Guidance Cell, Mrs. Jayalaxmi, Convener of Commerce
Association and Mr. Sandeep, Convener of Management Association, All the Faculties
of the Department of Commerce and Management, and various departments were present. Principal,
Dr. Raghavendra A gave Introductory Remarks, HOD, Prof. Shivakumar welcomed
the gathering and Mr. Sandeep Shetty conveyed the Vote of thanks. Convener of
the Commerce Association Mrs. Jayalaxmi
has introduced the Resource Persons.
The purpose of
organizing this workshop is to enhance the investment skill among students and
impart some knowledge on financial literacy also. Because an asset class that
is included in the portfolio has to be chosen only after a thorough
understanding of the investment objectives and constraints.
In the first session Resource
person, Mr. Varun Rao delivered a Lecture on “Basics of Stock Market”. He gave a brief introduction to the types and concepts of the stock market. He said a stock market is similar to a share market. The key difference is that
a stock market helps
you trade financial instruments
like bonds, mutual funds, derivatives as well as shares of companies. A
share market only
allows trading of shares. He has also explained the importance of stock and
investments, Returns of various asset classes over a period of time.
In the second session, the Resource person Mr. Ishmohit Arorahas discussed the Barometer of the economy, sentiment, basics of pay ratio, market capitalization, past track-record, wealth that can be created via rupee cost averaging and size of the opportunity in India today. He also has covered the financial literacy with a beautiful quote “How can we multiply the most scarce resource – Time.”
